Bank of America Unit Rethinks Networks

SAN FRANCISCO--Banc of America Broker-Dealer Services (BofA BDS), which provides execution and clearing services for about 35 boutique investment firms and funds, is implementing broad changes in its networks, incorporating load balancing and possibly virtual private networks (VPNs).

The bank has begun a year-long project to implement load balancing on its wide area network using two live data centers, rather than build a redundant third network that would be used only in disaster situations
