Iona Licences Microsoft's COM Source Code, And Readies Orbix-To-COM Bridge

DUBLIN--Declaring that the object-oriented middleware war is over, Iona Technologies announced last week that it has licenced the Component Object Model (COM) source code for the object-oriented middleware from Microsoft.

This is a major step toward interoperability between COM and its competition, products such as Iona's Orbix that are based on the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) from the Object Management Group. CORBA serves as the basis for Iona's Orbix object request broker
