IT Spending on the Increase as Y2K Fears Fade

NEW YORK--With the Y2K scare a fading memory, IT spending has been slowly on the rise. In an exclusive interview with Trading Technology Week, Lawrence Tabb of the Tower Group says that there are several reasons why technology spending is going up, the first of which is the Internet, which Tabb labels the "third wave" of technology.

In Tabb's interpretation of information technology history, the "first wave" brought the core processing systems, which were mostly mainframes. The "second wave"
