Compaq's Tandem To Use Alpha Chips For Future Generations Of Himalayas

CUPERTINO, California--In the first major cross-pollination of acquired technologies, the Tandem division of Compaq Computer recently decided to use the Alpha chip originally from Digital Equipment Corporation for future versions of its Nonstop Himalaya systems.

The Tandem high-end servers with fault-tolerant capabilities have been in use at major exchanges such as the NYSE, the London Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and major institutions such as Bank of America, Chase
