Awash In Options: Quote Vendors See Storage, Bandwidth Issues In SEC Proposal

An SEC proposal to broaden trading in options on listed stocks could swamp some quotation suppliers with a tidal wave of new data. Vendors worry that the proposal -- if it's approved and creates a free-for-all market in options -- will place significantly greater demands on their bandwidth and data storage capabilities.

Last month, the SEC voted to hold a hearing September 29th on a staff proposal to abandon the lottery system that allocates new options on listed stocks among the five options
