Latency: Industry Ups Focus on Measurement

Although the demise of latency monitoring software vendor Trading Metrics early this year did not bode well for the space, in a poll conducted during one of IMD's Web seminars, 31 percent of the audience said their firms ramped up spending on latency in 2009, compared to just 6 percent last year, while those projecting spending cuts fell sharply from 35 percent to 19 percent. Meanwhile, the number of projects eliminated or delayed declined from 28 percent to 25 percent (IMD, Nov. 21).
