Firms will continue to spend on sales trading and on low-touch electronic trading, but more effort will be made to integrate the systems, says Kevin McPartland, senior analyst at Tabb Group and the study's author.

A sales trader's customer relationship management (CRM) system, for example, will work with direct market access (DMA) and algorithmic trading systems, allowing the sales traders to understand the electronic trading trends of their clients in addition to their high-touch account history
