Intel Debuts Woodcrest Chipset

NEW YORK—Intel took a shot at the competition last week with the release of its Xeon Processor 5100 series, code-named Woodcrest.

The 5100 series, which started shipping on June 26, will plug into Intel's Bensley platform, which debuted on May 23. Intel claims the new chipset has a 135 percent performance improvement and a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption over previous models.

The company is also moving to a 65-nanometer manufacturing process, down from 90-nanometer process, says Pat
