Nasdaq Rumored to Launch Alternative U.K. Exchange

NEWS ANALYSIS

NEW YORK—Rumors began circulating last week that if the Nasdaq Stock Market is unsuccessful in gaining controlling interest of the London Stock Exchange (LSE) it will build its own rival exchange in London.

According the various reports in the London business press, Nasdaq CEO Bob Greifeld reportedly told London-based financial firms that if the LSE continues to rebuff Nasdaq's acquisition attempt that Nadsaq would compete directly with the LSE by setting up its own rival bourse.
