Instinet Policy Change Aimed At Broker-Dealers

Reuters Holdings PLC unit Instinet Inc., itself an alternative to trading on established exchanges, is moving to consolidate its electronic beachhead in the markets for listed and over-the-counter securities. In an effort to shift more telephone-based trading onto the system, Instinet will no longer give up counterparty identity for trades between broker-dealers.

The change is intended to prevent brokers from using Instinet as a "discovery mechanism," according to Instinet executive vice
