NERD ON THE STREET

In London, Cable & Wireless, Cisco Systems and Hong Kong Telecom recently announced a joint trial of an IP Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) service based on Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, which has been designed to improve the performance of IP networks. Initially, the trial will implement the Tag Switching protocol technology pioneered by Cisco. Tag Switching is a software solution for the integration of Layer 3 routing (network layer) and Layer 2 switching (data link layer).
