Nasdaq Builds VLDBs With Oracle 8

NEW YORK--Nasdaq has put into production the Oracle 8 database to help it search through databases composed of multiple gigabytes of trading information to detect regulatory violations, says Oscar Zavala, associate director for database administration for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) in Washington, the US capitol.

Zavala and the DBA staff have implemented Oracle 8 as the engine to oversee Nasdaq's Very Large Databases (VLDBs), which consist of Nasdaq's trades and quotes.
