• Perhaps Wall Street should think twice about its mad dash back to the mainframe for a 21st Century version of time-sharing called "computing on-demand." Insider heard a cautionary tale from a source who used to work in IT at a major US brokerage. A mainframe outage--minus proper fail-over--caused a trader to lose a deal and thus a $250,000 bonus. When the trader was told that more reliable servers with fail-over might be the answer, the trader cried, "I’ll buy you the damned machine!" Rumor
