Hackers Target Traders' IM Systems

SAN FRANCISCO—Securities trading firms with widespread usage of instant messaging (IM) technologies have to be on the lookout for a new vulnerability to hacker attacks.

FaceTime Communications, a Foster City, Calif.-based provider of real-time security and management solutions, recently warned that a new JPEG virus could start propagating via IM and peer-to-peer (p-to-p) networks. The announcement describes how the virus could—hitherto only in theory—exploit the latest detected Microsoft
