NEW YORK-Defining data standards is increasingly moving up the agenda, with firms striving to create business dictionaries aimed at improving data mapping and processes.

Michael Atkin, managing director, EDM Council says projects to define terms are "absolutely happening with more frequency." Precise identification of core components such as instruments, entities and data attributes are the foundation of effective data management, he says.
