EDM Council Names John Bottega Interim Managing Director
Former EDM Council chair John Bottega takes over from Mike Atkin, who will shift his focus to research and education.
Bottega has been working with the EDM Council since 2005, when he was an industry contributor, and he served as the non-profit trade association’s chairman from 2007–2014. He then joined the council’s executive team as a senior advisor. Bottega has more than three decades’ data management experience, most recently as CDO for Bank of America, and previously with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Citi.
He is tasked with increasing the EDM Council’s membership numbers and promoting its industry initiatives, such as the Data Management Capability Assessment Model and the Financial Industry Business Ontology standard, which is moving into full production.
“It is an honor to be stepping up to lead the council at such an exciting time. We have a number of key initiatives underway that will further galvanize the council’s role as a driving force for the data management profession across the globe,” says Bottega, in a statement.
Atkin has been a leader at the EDM Council since its formation in 2005.
“During his tenure leading the council, Mike oversaw growth in membership from just five organizations to more than 200 and guided the development of countless initiatives to promote the interests of our profession,” says EDM Council chairman Peter Serenita, in a statement. According to the EDM Council, global membership has doubled in size over the past three years, and now numbers more than 7,000 professionals.
