Overview
The Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) is a global member association that seeks to advance data standardization across the financial services industry by upholding the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) principles and promoting identifier codes for financial instruments. The ANNA Service Bureau (ASB) is a central data hub that collects and enriches global securities identification data, making it available to other national numbering agency (NNA) members and financial institutions, thus supporting market transparency and the detection of systemic risk.

The solution
ANNA drives the development of all International Organization for Standardization (ISO) identifier standards supporting market interoperability and transparency. On a daily basis, the ASB central data hub receives and consolidates securities identifier data from member NNAs around the world. The ASB provides single-point access to consolidated financial instrument identifier data that helps organizations to meet regulatory requirements and authorities to identify market risk.
Secret sauce
ANNA collaborates with regulators, industry stakeholders and standards bodies to provide financial instrument identifier codes and solutions that best serve the industry. Since the introduction of International Securities Identification Numbers (ISINs), technology and regulations have evolved, with ANNA spearheading the development of all data standards that support data alignment and harmonization. The ASB data enables organizations to respond to regulatory requirements and supports authorities in monitoring the buildup of systemic risk.
Recent milestones
Over the last year, the ASB has continued to collect and consolidate global standard identifier data and is consistently developing to include new key data elements such as detailed instrument description data and other identifier codes. Membership and use-cases continue to expand. This year, ANNA started providing ISO standard identifiers for digital assets―the XT ISIN―based on open data principles. In November 2023, the first crypto assets were issued with ISINs.
Future objectives
The ASB provides the most complete and current collection of identifier data available globally. Data is collected from over 120 NNAs responsible for issuing ISINs and other identifiers, for over 200 jurisdictions. Over the next 12 months, contributing jurisdictions will expand and coverage is expected to increase from the current 110 million ISIN records. ANNA will further develop standards for the growing number of digital asset instruments.
