Mathias Papenfuss has been re-elected to another three-year term as chairman of the European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA).
Papenfuss, a board member of Clearstream, led the ECSDA through efforts to comply with European Union regulation concerning central securities depositories in 2014 and the association's launch of the Target2-Securities platform in 2015.
"I expect the next three years to witness an unprecedented level of harmonization of CSD activities, as well as stronger competition within Europe," says Papenfuss. "Each CSD will face its own specific challenges, but as an industry association, ECSDA can play a key role in ensuring that the new rules of the game are applied consistently and meaningfully across national markets."
Papenfuss's re-election took place at the ECSDA board meeting held in Warsaw on May 20. Iwona Sroka, CEO of Krajowy Depozyt Papierów Wartościowych (KDPW), Poland's CSD, was re-elected to the ECSDA executive committee at the meeting.
