Differences between private and public feeds cause conflicts in historical pricing records

The availability of US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) data through private feeds several seconds before its public posting is creating a challenge for reference data accuracy, observes the executive of a time synchronization provider that serves financial industry clients.

SEC chair Mary Jo White acknowledged the problem in June, and in late October, New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney called on the SEC to address the timing advantage cause by early distribution of prices, volumes
