In Six Months, Ransomware Fear Has Grown

Another threat, ransomware, has come to the fore recently. Employed by cash-seeking criminals rather than sophisticated corporate or state actors, ransomware is malware that encrypts critical company files. The hacker will only unencrypt them in exchange for a ransom payment.

Results from a June survey by IT security training company KnowBe4 show a marked increase in awareness of and fear of ransomware, when compared to a similar survey by internet security provider Webroot in January. The
