Before joining Money.net, Downey served as global head of commodities at Bloomberg, where he contributed to the development and content of the Bloomberg Professional terminal, prior to which he ran trading desks at Citibank, Bank of America and Standard Chartered.

He is also the author of Oil 101, a guide to the oil industry and how prices are determined in global wholesale oil markets.

Downey replaces founder and ex-CEO of Money.net, HL Van Arnem, who becomes executive chairman. In his new role, Van Arnem will continue to help guide the development of new technology and long-term opportunities, officials say.
