The Vendor Community and Data Quality
I had an interesting chat yesterday with the CTO and COO of a $3 billion hedge fund. They told me that when it comes to data quality, the vendor community has been woefully lacking in supplying solutions for firms with complex investment strategies.
Details of the conversation will be featured in the March issue of Waters magazine, but what struck me was that the CTO said he didn’t originally want to have to build a proprietary system to deal with his firm’s data quality issues, but ended up doing so because there weren’t any products on the market that met his needs.
What I find somewhat shocking—and I've written about this before—is that data quality is still such a burdensome issue. From reading our sibling publication, Inside Reference Data, I understand that the Enterprise Data Management Council has made this issue a major focus.
I’ll wait until I’ve finished writing my March article before I wax poetic on the subject, but what I'd be interested to know is this: Does the vendor community feel that it has not adequately addressed the issue of data quality for the hedge fund community?
