Merrill Releases Earnings: IT Spending Jumps 13 Percent In 2000; Future Investments in Technology Expected

NEW YORK--Merrill Lynch announced its fourth quarter and year-end earnings last week. Technology and communications spending rose 11.92 percent, up $65 million for the fourth quarter over the same period the year before. The bank spent an additional $267 million in IT for the year, reflecting a 13.01 percent increase from 1999.
