When Sun Microsystems recently unveiled the Darwin workstations--the Ultra 5 and Ultra 10 based on the Ultrasparc-11i 300Mhz, 64-bit chip--there was mention of the ability of those platforms to run applications from the Sun Solaris Unix and Microsoft Windows environments.

This PC and Unix interoperability is available by using Insignia's Softwindows application to run Windows 95 and 3.x applications on Sun hardware, says Sun. Softwindows--a software emulator for Windows--will run the Microsoft
