NEW YORK--Merrill Lynch appears to have stepped back from its attempt to create a centralized global services structure to manage IT and operations. The firm dismissed Tsvi Gal, its chief technology officer (CTO) for enterprise technology systems, a week ago last Friday. John McKinley, Merrill's CTO, will handle Gal's duties, including responsibility for global infrastructure and networks, until a replacement can be found.
