ABN Amro Lays Off 600 IT Staff As Part of Restructuring Program

FRONT PAGE NEWS

LONDON--ABN Amro is laying off 600 IT staff, all in the Netherlands, as part of its latest restructuring program, which involves combining its investment and corporate banking units.

This phase of the restructuring only addresses the duplication of staff in Amsterdam on the wholesale banking side, which occurred after the merger of the two business units. More layoffs could follow. "There is a lot of scope for rationalizing the support functions globally," says a spokesperson for ABN Amro.
