Instinet Cleared To Operate In Canada

ATS/ECN UPDATE

TORONTO--Instinet can now operate in Canada, thanks to a ruling by the Ontario Securities Commission.

The Commission rescinded a 1989 order that prevented Instinet from using its electronic platform for Canadian stocks in the Canadian market place. Partly due to this ten-year history of restriction, the practical effect is moot for now, since Instinet does not have an electronic trading platform in Canada. Instinet Canada says they expect one by the first quarter of 2000.
