And They're Off! Goldman Starts Vendor Race For 450-Position Fixed-Income Trading Room

Goldman Sachs & Co. has begun a contest to determine which data distribution system will support its fixed-income trading desk in New York. The installation at stake will comprise some 450 trader positions -- a modest expansion of the desk's current headcount.

The hardware platform of choice for the bake-off is Sun Microsystems Inc. SPARCstations running UNIX. The system would replace a mixed video-switch/digital data distribution system from Micrognosis Inc. The expanded trading room is expected
