High-Flying Oil Markets Make Launch Of NYMEX's Access Soar

Timing is everything. Just ask the New York Mercantile Exchange, which just happened to launch Access, its electronic after-hours futures and options order matching service, during the most volatile period in the oil market in the last 12 months.

Those turbulent conditions have helped lift volume on the system, users and exchange officials say. In the first three weeks of trading, an average of about 1,500 contracts -- almost all of them crude oil futures -- have changed hands each evening.
