Y2K Code Freeze On For Many Segments Of The Industry

NEW YORK--An informal but wide-spread Y2K code freeze is being observed by the securities industry beginning in the fourth quarter of this year.

A code freeze is not mandated by federal regulators, but the Securities Industry Association (SIA) was suggesting that its 740 member firms organize Y2K efforts around that cut-off date. In fact some firms set their Y2K cut-off dates for new code in advance of October 1.

SIA spokesperson Dan Michaelis stated that the date was not set in stone and could
