Vendor Update: Reuters Takes Tough Medicine in 2003

TRADING TECHNOLOGY WEEK ANNUAL REVIEW 2003

LONDON--Reuters used 2003 to revamp its product lines, shrink its staff and refocus itself upon its core businesses.

The vendor took dramatic steps in reaction to pressure from aggressive competitors, depressed financial markets and its own lagging performance--all adding up to another difficult year for Reuters. Thus hopes are high that 2004 will see some kind of recovery for the London-based market data, technology and news giant.

Reuters lost little time in responding to record losses in 2002
