MSE Plans Off-Hours Network For NYSE Portfolio Trades

The Midwest Stock Exchange is awaiting Securities and Exchange Commission approval for a "crossing network" that will attempt to stem the flow of after-hours trading in listed stocks to overseas markets. But the Midwest's proposed service would require institutional traders to route their orders through intermediaries.

Unlike crossing networks such as Jeffries & Co.'s POSIT and Instinet Corp.'s Crossing Network, the Midwest's proposed network brings brokers back into the loop. According to Roger
