SEC Staff Readying Soft-Dollar Rules, May Ask For More Disclosure In 1999

The Securities and Exchange Commission's forthcoming proposals on soft-dollar agreements have been delayed by the recent market turmoil, but a senior lawyer with the agency says the staff's proposals may be submitted to the full commission by early next year. After the usual give and take of the rule-making process, asset managers could find themselves subject to new disclosure requirements for these agreements in 1999.
The proposals will follow by just over a year extensive audits the agency
