BT Rolls Out ITS Anywhere for Nortel

The new release extends mobile access to all trading information, allowing calls and information to be viewed on remote and off-floor devices at the same time it is received by trading floor turrets and multimedia desktop devices, the officials add.

"Back-office staff or the administration staff using a Nortel phone can see the call coming in on the turret and they can answer it on their Nortel phone without having to walk across the floor to the turret," says Phil Mottram, managing director, BT Trading Systems. "The clients will save money because they will have to buy fewer turrets," he adds.

Users should also be able to offer an improved level of customer service by receiving calls faster, says Mottram.

BT's ITS Anywhere for Nortel solution is designed for capital markets organizations, like financial markets and energy companies, that want to move to an environment where the enterprise IP telephony system can complement and interact with existing ITS trading turrets, such as ITS.Netrix, say BT officials. This is particularly beneficial where trading information is required by an operations manager or an analyst rather than a trader and the cost of purchasing a full trading turret is not justifiable, say BT officials.

The turret is linked to an ITS switch provided by BT, Mottram says. BT links the Nortel telephony to the same switch. "[With this configuration,] you can see if the lines are landing on the turret or on the Nortel telephony device," he adds.

By widening access to ITS services and augmenting turrets with Nortel's IP Phone 2007, BT's ITS Anywhere for Nortel reduces the total cost of ownership while simultaneously providing a greater operations resiliency through highly reliable and highly secure information access away from the trading floor, add BT officials.

One client has signed on to use ITS Anywhere for Nortel, says Mottram, but he declines to identify the client. ITS Anywhere is already available for telephony devices from Avaya and Cisco Systems, he adds.
