ROGERS IN AS INSTINET CTO
Agency brokerage Instinet has named Christopher Rogers its new CTO. Rogers will replace Michael Bundy, who has become CTO of Chi-X—a pan-European equity alternative trading system (ATS) owned by Instinet. Prior to assuming his new role, Rogers was Instinet's chief software architect. Before joining Instinet, Rogers worked at Tradescape Technologies. He has worked on numerous software development projects since joining Instinet in August 2003. Most recently, he led the migration of the firm's various trading products to Instinet's core trading backend.
BNY APPOINTS HEAD OF SALES
BNY ConvergEx Group, a provider of agency brokerage and investment technology solutions, has appointed Stephen Wontner head of sales for ConvergEx global markets, formerly known as G-Port. He will be responsible for sales of global agency brokerage services to the institutional investment community in Europe. With more than 20 years' experience in the financial services industry, Wontner joins ConvergEx Global Markets from ETrade, where he managed business development of execution services to institutional and hedge fund clients.
NASDAQ GROWS CHINA POSTS
The Nasdaq Stock Market recently announced that Eric Landheer has been appointed head of Asia-Pacific, and Guang Xun Xu has been appointed co-chief representative in China. Landheer will be responsible for Nasdaq's new listings business throughout the Asia-Pacific region and Xu will be responsible for developing relationships with potential Nasdaq issuers while maintaining relationships with existing listed companies based in China. Landheer has previously worked as a managing director, new listings for Nasdaq. Xu has worked as a consultant in China.
AEMS GAINS NEW CHAIR
The supervisory board of Atos Euronext Market Solutions (AEMS), a technology provider to exchanges, clearinghouses, brokers, banks and intermediaries, has appointed Philippe Germond, currently a member of the management board of Atos Origin, to the position of chairman of the management board of AEMS. Francis Delacourt has also been appointed deputy to Germond.
ACSDA ELECTS PRESIDENT
The Americas' Central Securities Depositories Association (ACSDA) has elected Mary Ann Callahan its new president. She is managing director, international, at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. (DTCC). As president, Callahan will be responsible for promoting cooperation, information exchanges, best practices and cross-border relationships among central securities depositories and clearinghouses from more than 25 nations across the Americas and South Africa. Callahan succeeds Fernando Yáñez Gonzales, general manager of Chile's Depósito Central de Valores S.A. (DCV).
FPL NAMES REGIONAL CO-CHAIR
Jim Northey
, co-founder of The LaSalle Technology Group, has been elected co-chair of the FIX Protocol Ltd. (FPL) Americas regional committee. Northey is based in Chicago with LaSalle. Previously, he managed the derivatives practice area at consultancy Jordan & Jordan. This will be the second time Northey will serve as an FPL committee co-chair. Previously, he was FPL global derivatives committee chairman and was heavily involved in the creation of the implicit tagging version of FIX, the precursor of the FAST protocol. Northey succeeds Martin Koopman of Orc Software, who recently completed his two-year term. Northey will serve with the committee's other co-chair, John Goeller, senior vice president, electronic connectivity with Lehman Brothers.OPENLINK TAPS SAPPOL
Mark Sappol
has joined OpenLink—a provider of cross-asset trading, risk management and operations processing software—as global director of Findur, the vendor's cross-asset, front-, middle- and back-office solution for capital markets. Having spent five years at Misys, Sappol was responsible for the direction of customer support and consulting services. Sappol's executive management experience also includes previous positions as the head of pre-sales at SmartStream Technologies and managing director at Entory in the U.K., where he was responsible for providing business and IT solutions to the banking and brokerage marketplace.IPC ADDS BEJING OFFICE
Trading floor communications provider IPC has opened its second office in Mainland China. The office, located in the Central Dong Cheng district, is IPC's ninth in Asia-Pacific, with offices already established in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Shanghai. The Beijing office will be managed by Helena Hu, IPC's sales director and country manager for China. She has spent 12 years in the Chinese financial markets and was responsible for opening IPC's Shanghai office in 2006.
