SS&C Advent Geneva: Shining the Crown Jewel
Though SS&C Advent's offerings dot the buy side's technology map, it is fair to say that SS&C's acquisition of the company in 2015 made broadsheet headlines because Geneva-one of the Street's most widely used and most admired accounting platforms-was changing hands. Reasonable questions followed soon after. Would it get swallowed up? What about the client support teams, the development talent, and the product roadmap?
Turns out, a new pair of gloves can just as capably care for the Advent crown jewel. As both senior Advent technologists and Geneva users put it at the company's recent SS&C Deliver conference in San Diego, SS&C has broadly stuck to its pre-acquisition promise: Scale up Geneva's reach and modernize its delivery to the market, but leave the secret sauce and technology-first mindset intact and in capable hands.
The proof is in details big and small from this past year, manifest from enhancing Geneva's core data processing and reporting capabilities, to finely calibrated hardware testing and new features directed toward Geneva's widening array of global asset managers, hedge funds and private equity firms.
The largest of these, Geneva's Enterprise Information Store (EIS), is a massive optimization project set for initial implementation in 2017. Using new data layering and a proprietary change analyzer, the EIS can propagate, aggregate, and ultimately report new data from an alternative relational database far more quickly than Geneva's current core. Early testing shows end-to-end processing time from data entry to accounting reports is cut nearly in half, while reports are produced almost nine times as quickly. A full three-quarters of the Geneva platform development team has participated in the project at some point or another, while in 2016, the team's numbers have additionally grown at their fastest post-crisis rate.
Infrastructure planning has been another key focus, with new benchmarking results that influence recommendations around virtualization, operating system choices, and server configurations. These findings not only benefit Geneva users who are pondering a move to their own private cloud, but have also informed the design of SS&C Advent's new enhanced hosting offering Advent Outsourcing Services. Along with an ongoing emphasis on user experience and further access for third-party integrations, these two technical areas make it clear that the innovative spirit behind Geneva abides. The jewel is safe; indeed, it is set to flourish.
