AlphaSense Builds Dow Jones News Into Financial Search Engine
Dow Jones is the first newswire on the platform, which is aiming to be "Google for analysts"
Dow Jones is the first newswire that AlphaSense has added to its platform, which extracts and indexes structured and unstructured data such as broker research, SEC filings, conference call transcripts and investor relations presentations.
"We are very pleased to offer our news on the AlphaSense platform," says Jason Malatesta, head of partners and alliances at Dow Jones. "We deliver comprehensive, global business and economic news to help our partners and clients prosper, and we welcome the opportunity to add our value to AlphaSense's award-winning financial research platform."
Analysts and investors will now be able to access all Dow Jones content in real-time, including The Wall Street Journal and US financial magazine Barron's. When a new story is released on the newswire, AlphaSense will tag and index the article in real-time, which takes "no time at all" says Julie Craig, vice president of marketing at the vendor. The article is then stored in the AlphaSense database, which is hosted in the Amazon Web Services cloud.
In addition to real-time news, customers of AlphaSense will be able to search Dow Jones' historical archive leveraging AlphaSense's Smart Synonyms search technology, which automatically includes synonyms for popular terms and concepts important to investors. For example, if a user searchs for "company X's profits", the search engine searches for other terms relating to profit, such as revenues and sales.
Users will be able to set up customized alerts to notify them when relevant news is published, for example, the user can select to be notified when certain stocks, key words or search terms are mentioned in the news. The platform also enables users to annotate any content stored on AlphaSense and create downloadable reports that can be accessed later or shared internally.
"A lot of the content we provide are thoughtful pieces that don't come out in real time. Dow Jones news will help investors and analysts to carry out near real-time analysis of anything developing," Craig adds.
AlphaSense chose Dow Jones as its first newswire as part of ongoing efforts at the vendor to aggregate content and make it easier for users to find data.
"Our secret sauce is the way we index all of our content...we leverage linguistic PhDs and proprietary algorithms to organize and tag all the information so it's more searchable. It's similar to what Google did...they became leader because of the programming in the back end and we are tagging out content in a way that makes it easy to pinpoint what you want," Craig says, adding that AlphaSense is aiming to be "Google for analysts."
