Both executives will stay on until their successors are appointed. Verplancke, who is based in Singapore and joined the bank in 2004, will also stay on for an appropriate hand-over period.

Goulding joined in 2002, and was appointed to the chief risk officer post in 2006.

The news follows on from the firm's decision to shutter its cash equities business, which had been running at a loss.
