Nasdaq Buys Dorsey Wright to Boost Smart Beta Indexes

Acquisition will expand Nasdaq's smart beta ETF licensing opportunities

The deal, which is expected to close in the first quarter of this year, will increase Nasdaq's growth potential in the index business across asset classes such as fixed income, currencies and commodities, and to new geographies, beginning with Canada and Europe, officials say.

Nasdaq already has 69 licensed smart beta exchange-traded funds and DWA has 17 ETFs, bringing the total assets benchmarked against Nasdaq smart beta indexes to $45 billion.
