The London Stock Exchange has appointed Clara Furse as its new chief executive. Furse, a group chief executive of Credit Lyonnais, is the first woman to be appointed to the position in the exchange's 200-year history. A former deputy chairman of Liffe and a managing director of UBS, Furse replaces Gavin Casey, who stepped down in the aftermath of the exchange's failed merger with Deutsche Bourse. Observers expect Furse to push for a closer relationship between the exchange and the Liffe
