Middleware Gets a New Name, Furthers Embedding of XML and Rules

YEAR 2000 MIDDLEWARE REVIEW

LONDON--Middleware got a new name in 2000--enterprise application integration--claiming greater systems scalability for the integration of disparate applications. The year 2000 also saw the greater embedding of business rules concepts and XML-driven engines into middleware products.

In April, IBM announced its plans to develop the Websphere B2B Integrator, a middleware product running on XML designed to integrate all disparate system applications. IBM says its product uses technology from its MQ
