AlphaSense Taps Trio of Sales Execs
AlphaSense has hired Steven Carroll as vice president of sales for the EMEA region in London, responsible for business development throughout the region, mainly focusing on hedge funds and institutional asset managers.
Carroll was most recently an independent consultant and market commentator for Thomson Reuters' Alpha Now news and commentary site, having previously served as head of indexes and head of investment management for Asia at the vendor, which he joined as a result of its acquisition of Starmine, where he held senior account management roles in North America and EMEA.
The vendor has also hired Jordan Lert as vice president of sales in New York, responsible for growing its business in the Midwest and Eastern Canada, as well as for some of AlphaSense's business in New York City, particularly among analysts and portfolio managers who can use the platform's "natural language processing technology to identify new forms of alpha."
Lert was previously sales director for the Americas at corporate debt news and data provider Debtwire, prior to which he was head of client relationship management for the Americas at Debtwire parent Mergermarket.
AlphaSense officials say Carroll's extensive understanding of buy-side front-office workflows and his experience of helping clients with buy-side decision support tools and referential and analytical content will contribute to the growth of AlphaSense's business in Europe.
The new hires follow the appointment of New York-based Ian Chodos in July as vice president of business development, focusing on law firms as well as financial markets. Chodos was previously solution sales manager at satellite imagery and aerial vessel monitoring provider DigitalGlobe, working with various data vendor partners that use its content to track commodities production and shipping, prior to which he spent almost four years as a sales executive at Bloomberg.
All three report to John Garofoli, senior vice president of sales, who says the expansion is "to keep pace with client demand... [and] manage the quickly escalating flow of inquiries for AlphaSense," adding that the vendor is planning "further expansion of our team in the near term" as it rolls out new products currently in development.
