In 2006 and 2007, electronic trading in Asia was on an upswing that seemed unstoppable. New markets, new connectivity and new opportunities awaited traders and technology vendors, who arrived in the region by the day. "Leapfrogging" was a favorite term, and vendors expected Asia to adopt technology at a faster clip than investment firms and exchanges in Europe or the US.

That has changed.
