Toronto Shelves Plans For CTIS, Will Retain CATS, Other Systems

In the face of low trading volumes, the Toronto Stock Exchange shelved an ambitious plan July 18 to replace its multiple trading systems with a single system. The Consolidated Trading and Information System (CTIS), which had been intended to help the exchange handle larger volumes, was in prototype stage.

"It was a business decision that had to be made in hard times," says Olaf Kraulis, vice president, information systems, at the exchange. Planning and design will be restarted when trading volume
