ISLAND TRUMPS INSTINET AS NASDAQ KING

The Island ECN became the largest ECN for Nasdaq volume, according to the National Association of Securities Dealers. Island accounted for 11.3 percent of Nasdaq share volume in November 2001. Instinet handled 9.8 percent, while the newly combined Redibook and Archipelago handled 8.1 percent during the same period. Between September and November, Island’s volume grew by 28.4 percent, while Instinet’s shrunk by 16.2 percent. Instinet recorded 4.7 billion
