Tandem Hardware Failures Stop Toronto Stock Trading

In its wide experience operating computer systems at 38 exchanges around the globe, Tandem Computers Inc. had never seen anything like it. Indeed, when a double hardware failure on a Tandem LX forced the Toronto Stock Exchange to halt trading in floor-based equities for three hours on Aug. 16, "it was kind of a unique event" for the company, says James Eckler, Tandem marketing manager for the securities industry.
