Analysts are increasingly skeptical that the leading data vendors will grow their businesses as a result of their efforts to steal away market share from each other.

Over recent weeks Thomson Financial, Bloomberg and Reuters have all announced new product launches that they claim will take them into new markets. But Matthew Owen, a media stock specialist at Morgan Stanley, says this strategy amounts to little more than "a game of musical chairs."
