Officials from JPMorgan Chase decline to comment and Bear Stearns officials did not return calls for comment.

According to a source familiar with the situation, both organizations are in constant meetings to identify all of Bear's assets.

"We're still literally on page one and two of the merger and acquisition playbook," says the source. "This usually takes three months to accomplish and it was done in 48 hours," the source adds, referring to the due diligence period that occurred March 15 and 16
