Instinet: What Went Wrong?

Undergoing massive changes, the former powerhouse struggles to reclaim lost market share. By

One year ago, Instinet had 14.3 percent of Nasdaq’s market share. Its closest competitor ECNs were the Island ECN at 7.9 percent and Redibook at 4.1 percent, according to Nasdaq data. Then, Instinet began to see its share volume drop, including a 33 percent decline in the first three months of this year.

After steadily losing Nasdaq market share to ECN
