Waters Rankings 2023: Best artificial intelligence (AI) technology provider—S&P Global Market Intelligence
Product/service: Kensho
Overview
Kensho’s suite of AI solutions is designed to transform messy, unstructured data—including audio and text—into high-value structured data that powers downstream business and finance decision-making. These offerings are then made available through S&P Global’s integrated delivery ecosystem via S&P Capital IQ Pro and S&P Global Marketplace.
“We are honored to receive this award as it demonstrates S&P Global’s competitive advantage in AI. We believe Kensho’s AI expertise, paired with S&P Global’s proprietary data assets and our leading platforms, are uniquely positioned to create best-in-class, domain-specific AI solutions that meet the needs of business and finance firms.”
Teddy Kahn, head of analytical platforms, S&P Global Market Intelligence
The solution
Kensho’s suite of AI solutions enables end-to-end workflows, as shown through Document Viewer within Capital IQ Pro.Kensho Scribe and Kensho Extract convert audio―earnings calls and PDFs such as broker research reports―into machine-readable text files. These are then tagged and linked to S&P Global datasets using natural language processing (NLP) capabilities such as Kensho NERD, creating a document search and retrieval solution.
Secret sauce
Unlike traditional AI capabilities, Kensho’s AI solutions are trained on top of S&P Global’s vast volumes of domain-specific proprietary data and designed with client-to-S&P Global data linkage in mind. Proprietary data training enables Kensho’s AI model to outperform generic AI models in business-specific use-cases, while data linkage enables deeper, richer, and more integrated decision-making insights.
Recent milestones
S&P Global Market Intelligence and Kensho partnered to enhance its Document Viewer within Capital IQ Pro and enabled sentiment analysis on textual documents. In Q1 2023, Kensho released Kensho Classify, a thematic tagging capability powered by a “small” language model that has no-training, zero shot tagging and pre-trained, out-of-the-box concept tagging, such as industry classification. Classify compliments Kensho’s existing solutions by enhancing insight discoverability in document search and retrieval, enabling topic-based portfolio construction and monitoring use-cases.
Future objectives
Kensho is actively researching, testing, and designing large language models (LLMs) and generative AI (GAI) use-cases in conjunction with the broader S&P Global organization. In the near future, Kensho expects to deploy LLMs and GAI capabilities on S&P Global platforms such as Capital IQ Pro and the S&P Global Marketplace, and also develop software and data assets that enhance the performance of LLM/GAI-powered business and finance-specific solutions.
